Thoughts on Magic Mouse

If you’re on the fence and considering buying a Magic Mouse, count me as someone who thinks it’s a great product. It’s certainly not for everyone, however. If you’re someone who’s used to clicking or squeezing buttons to engage Expose, Dashboard or Spaces, this mouse really isn’t for you. But what it lacks in custom controls like those, to me, there are two things that really make up for it.

  1. It has the slickest scrolling mechanism I’ve ever used. It’s ability to capture accelerated movements is on par with the iPhone. For example, a simple scroll through my iTunes artists list would normally take about 10-12 aggressive scrolls with the Mighty Mouse. With the Magic, I can literally do that in one swipe.
  2. A fit and finish that makes other mice seem like toys. Try this: use a Magic Mouse for at least 15 minutes and then and go pick up anything else. Everything else will feel like hallowed out pieces of junky plastic – even the recent Apple mice.
